As I entered the precincts, there was a pond and a bridge. Standing on the bridge, I had a clear view of the approach to Kameido Tenjin Shrine in Kameido, which stretched straight toward the shrine's hall of worship. A large number of worshippers were walking along the narrow path between the plum trees. The plum blossoms were about to bloom.
As I stood on the arched bridge and watched, I saw a group of three women and a man coming from the other side, probably after paying their respects. The two women were wearing kimonos. Kimonos go well with shrines.
Incidentally, as the name suggests, this is a shrine dedicated to Sugawara no Michizane. Sugawara Otorii Shinyu, a priest of Dazaifu Tenmangu Shrine who was a descendant of Sugawara no Michizane, traveled around the country to spread the Tenjin faith, and in 1661 he arrived at Honjo Kameido Village in Edo, where he enshrined a statue of Tenjin carved from a plum tree, known as the sacred tree of Dazaifu Tenmangu Shrine, in a small shrine that originally existed.
