Shoun-ji Temple is located in Hiroo, right in the middle of an upscale residential area. I thought that the temple would have been built to match the atmosphere of the surrounding neighborhood, but that didn't seem to be the case. Shoun-ji was originally a prestigious temple that served as a graveyard for many daimyo and samurai families, and it was the surrounding cityscape that created the sense of luxury.

As I was about to enter the temple grounds, I noticed a plum tree planted at the entrance. It was just in season, so the flowers were in full bloom. The flowers were beautiful, with many layers of petals. I read in a book that plum trees used to be much more popular than cherry trees, but now they have completely lost their popularity to cherry trees. As proof of this, I stopped to admire them, but no one else was as fascinated as I was.
