As I wandered around the streets of Yangon, I saw many different types of food stalls. Just like other Southeast Asian countries, Myanmar has a rich food culture. There are food stalls along the roadside and drink stalls as well. Among them, there was a stall selling fresh juice.

The machine in this photo was a machine for pressing sugar cane. There are two metal bars in the middle, and the sugar cane is pressed through the bars. When I passed by, a man was in the middle of threading sugar cane between the bars and pressing it.

In Myanmar, the locals drink tea on a daily basis, but sugarcane juice is also common, and there are stalls selling it all over town. It is also inexpensive. Apparently, sugar cane is one of the four major crops in this country. I wonder if such stalls will disappear when biofuel becomes popular.
