The houses in the village of Maligcong, surrounded by terraced rice paddies, were clustered in the middle. The houses in the village were all tin-roofed, and there were no thatched-roofed houses to be found. There may have originally been houses with thatched roofs, but they must have been replaced by tin roofs because they are difficult to maintain. Between the tin roofs, there was a narrow path like a passageway. There were no people. It was as if no one lived in this village.

I wandered through the maze of narrow alleys. After a while, I saw laundry hanging out to dry at the end of the alley. It must be evidence of human habitation. I felt a little relieved.
