The man whose job was to unload was carrying a large sack
The Pettah district in Colombo is a wholesale district. The streets lined with wholesalers were lined with trucks carrying goods, and they were all unloading at once. There is no mechanization going on here. The unloading of goods from the trucks is not done by machines, but by people.
As I watched the people working, I saw men carrying bags from the trucks one after another into the store. The shoeless man in this photo was one of them. Perhaps the bags were too heavy for him, but his back was twisted like a hunchback's.
