Hie Jinja Shrine is located on a hill floating among buildings, and its precincts are quiet as if the bustle of the city is a lie. The shrine used to be the highest shrine in the area, glaring down on the surrounding area, but times have changed and it is now surrounded by buildings taller than the hill. The glowering god is now looked down upon.

Although not as tall as the surrounding buildings, it is difficult to climb the stairs to the top where the main shrine is located, so an escalator is provided. If I could go up and down the stairs by myself instead of taking the escalator, I might be able to experience a little of the feeling that people in the past had at Hie Shrine. When I came to the stairs, I saw a couple of women who had finished praying also going down the stairs.
