A fence was set up between the roadway and the sidewalk of the road I was walking on in Pune. It is rare to see such a fence. But the fence was in shambles. Some of it was leaning toward the sidewalk, some toward the roadway. It was more difficult to find one that was standing straight.

As I walked along the fence, I saw a well-dressed woman in a vivid saree sitting on the side of the road. She wore a bindi between her eyebrows and a piercing in her nose (many women in South Asia have their noses pierced). She was sitting by herself on the side of the road, next to a tattered fence. I wondered what he was doing there. She must not have been as interested in the wavy fence as I was.
