A man wearing a brightly embroidered traditional costume stood in front of me. His lips were tightly closed. Although he exuded an air of dignity, he somehow didn't look too happy to have his photo taken. Not only here in Zinacantan, but in Mexico, many people avoid having their photo taken.

The poncho-like folk costume the man was wearing had leaf patterns embroidered all over it. The designs often have some kind of meaning, but I wondered what this design represented. Does it mean that the person wearing it will be filled with strength? As I looked around, I noticed that all the people wearing this traditional costume were wearing a similar design here. The pattern seems to vary from village to village. Indeed, the woman who allowed me to take her photo in Juchitán was wearing an ethnic costume with a completely different pattern.
