A grandmother was relaxing at the edge of the sidewalk with a baby on her lap
The sidewalks of central Yangon are lined with food stalls, like an open-air market. As I weaved my way between the stalls, my eyes met those of an elderly woman sitting on the side of the road. She was working at one of the stalls.
The older woman, who was working leisurely with her young grandchild on her lap, did not speak to me, but just stared at me. The baby, on the other hand, seemed to think the sudden appearance of a strange foreigner was suspicious and looked at me quizzically.
