I found a statue of Ganesha in a corner of Durbar Square in Patan. Ganesha is a Hindu deity with an elephant head with one tusk broken off on his drum-belly body. He is considered a god of commerce that brings wealth, and he is also a popular figure who is believed to bring good luck in academics. In Japan, he is sometimes enshrined in a corner of an Indian restaurant.

Ganesha is generally believed to have four arms, but the Ganesha statue in the photo appears to have more than four arms. The large number of arms indicates that Ganesha has many abilities. This means that the Ganesha of Durbar Square brings other benefits besides monetary fortune and academic achievement.

However, it seems that the many abilities of Ganesha do not include attracting worshippers, and there was no one praying to the Ganesha statue. The man who was sitting by the statue seemed to be simply resting there rather than coming to pay his respects.
