The brick building in this photo is the Kumari house. It's one of the buildings facing Durbar Square in Kathmandu. Kumari is a living goddess, a girl who is believed to be a reincarnation of the Goddess Tarej or Arunapurna, the patron goddess of Nepal.

Kumari is a living human god, so to speak, and human girls are treated as gods. Although it is said to be a violation of human rights, this has become a tradition in Nepal, and Kumari is not only in Kathmandu but also in Patan and other cities. In this 21st century world, there are few people who are considered present gods. In other cultures, the only one I can think of is the Dalai Lama, who is said to be an incarnation of Avalokitesvara.

While the girl who became Kumari still lives in the house, the building is also a museum where you can see the inside. While looking at the Kumari house from the square, I could see people looking in through the ornate windows.
