The cultivation of mangoes began in India in BC. As the birthplace of mango cultivation, India is still the world's largest producer of mangoes. Nepal, the country to the north, also produces a large amount of mangoes. And just like in India, there are many hawkers selling mangoes in the city.

The woman in the photo is one of the street vendors selling mangoes on a street corner in Kathmandu. She was standing next to a wagon piled high with mangoes, waiting for customers to arrive.

When I passed by, the woman was cutting mangoes with a knife in her hand. Beyond the vendor woman, I saw another woman with her arms crossed. The atmosphere was kind of intimidating, but the intimidation didn't seem to reach the woman peddler at all.
