A thick-lipped woman peeked out from a kiosk on the corner of the town and gave me a happy thumbs-up

As I walked through town, I saw a hut on the side of the road. Kiosks. In Manila, there are huts here and there that have become kiosks like this. They are like convenience stores in Tokyo, where locals come to buy small things.

What makes them different from convenience stores in Tokyo is not only their size, but above all, the safety of the surrounding area. The windows of the kiosks are covered with wire bars, so that unlike supermarkets, there are no guards with guns, but the goods are less likely to be stolen.

I passed a kiosk where a woman in a tank top was working by herself. Even though the kiosk was covered with a wire mesh, I wondered if she wasn't afraid of handling money on the side of the road in Manila, which is not a safe place, but she didn't seem to be worried in the slightest. The thick-lipped woman was cheerful, and when I pointed my camera at her, she happily gave me a thumbs-up. She seemed to enjoy having her picture taken.
