An old man in a hat was looking up at the Myeongjeongjeon
An old man wearing a hat was standing in front of Myeongjeongjeon in Changgyeonggung Palace. Changgyeonggung is a palace of the Joseon Dynasty in Seoul, and Myeongjeongjeon is its main building. It is hard to notice because there are no tall buildings around it, but Myeongjeongjeon is huge. The old man in the photo looked up as if he was overwhelmed.
Myeongjeongjeon was destroyed by fire during the Japanese invasions of Korea, but was rebuilt in 1616 and is said to be the oldest surviving main building of a palace on the Korean peninsula. Unlike today, Chinese characters were used in the Yi Dynasty, and the plaque on the front of Myeongjeongjeon was written in Chinese characters.
