Tapgol Park, a cozy park in the center of Seoul, used to be a temple called Wongaksa Temple during the Joseon Dynasty, and it was also the place where the March 1st Movement, a movement for independence from the Japanese Empire, started during the Japanese occupation. In the park, there are reliefs commemorating the March 1st Movement and a ten-story stone pagoda that marks the site of Wongaksa Temple.

However, what stands out the most in the park are the people playing Go on the benches. There are many people here playing Go under the blue sky. The two men in this photo were also playing Go seriously. Another old man was standing beside them, looking at the Go board. There are many people who play Go in Japan. However, when I saw so many people gathered in the park, I realized that Go is much more popular in Sounth Korea than in Japan.
