A Buddhist monk wearing an orange Kasaya was leaning against a stone pillar of a building standing in the old town of Galle. About 70% of the population of Sri Lanka is Buddhist, and I felt no discomfort when I saw a monk in the city.

However, it is a little different in the old town. I didn't feel that I have seen Buddhist monks in the old city. In the old town, which is registered as a world heritage site, I saw a church and a mosque, but I don't remember seeing Buddhist temples. By any chance, there might not be any Buddhist temple.

That's because the area called the Old City was constructed by the former suzerainty, right? Although the suzerainty has changed over the years, they are all Christian countries, such as Portugal, Holland, and England. It may be because they didn't feel the necessity to make religious facilities for local people in the old city which was built for the use of the people of the suzerainty.
