This stone garden belonged to the temple and was designed by Kobori Enshū about 400 years ago. He was at once a feudal lord and a person of culture. He was also famous as a master of the tea ceremony.

A rock was placed in the dry garden. It was surrounded by many gravel stones. The rock expressed an island and the gravel stones expressed the waves. Watching the garden, I felt as if I could hear the sound of the rippling waves.
