The traditional Japanese architecture with the thatched roof was open air. I could see a Shinto priest sitting in the building from where I stood. There were no glass windows nor walls. The only thing I could see was bamboo blinds.

Roof of the Japanese traditional architecture was sustained by the pillars, not by the wall like the Western architecture. So the walls were not so necessary. Although it was enough to be open air, I thought that to sit inside was hot in the summer and cold in the winter.
