There was a narrow, steep slop in the residential area. The atmosphere of the former foreign settlement was remained in this area. This city was one of the treaty ports in Japan. Even after the port was opened for the foreign countries, it was prohibited to foreigners to live outside of the foreign settlement. The slope was so steep that it was a hard work to climb.

During climbing, I found a small figure of an older woman at the end of the slope. I thought it was too hard to climb for her. She stooped with old age and held the handrail. Nevertheless, she was heading for the top of the slope slowly.
