Motorbikes and bicycle — In front of the headquarters of the Bank of Taiwan

Across the street from the ROC Governor-General's Office, another large stone building built during the Japanese occupation, is the headquarters of the Bank of Taiwan, designed by Japanese architect Yoshitoki Nishimura in 1938, and still used as the headquarters of the Bank of Taiwan. Walking around Taipei, it is interesting to occasionally come across buildings from the Japanese colonial period, such as this one.

Motorbikes were parked in front of the Bank of Taiwan. This area seems to be a motorbike parking lot. I had a feeling that more people in Taipei ride motorcycles than cars, but seeing so many bikes lined up along the side of the road made sense.

According to what I have heard, Taiwan has high import tariffs on automobiles. Although there are car manufacturers in the country, cars are probably too expensive for the average person to afford. While I was thinking about this and looking at the bikes lined up, a hunched-over man on a bicycle appeared and swooped past me.
