The name of statue is 'KONGO-RIKISHI' formally. It came originally from Brahmanism and became one of the Geniuses of Buddhism. It is believed that Nio has a weapon which can defeat enemies of Buddhism, so there are often a pair of the statues at the entrance of temples in Japan. :-)
That is very intense. It looks almost as if the head is glowing.
I would like to know the story behind this statue, because he has quite a look about him.
