About this photo

Shot at Umayyad Mosque in Damascus, Syria. The courtyard of this mosque was vast. And the ground was stone-paved and slithery. I saw some children running around here. This sanctuary area was just a playground for the local kids.

This mosque was originally built as the Basilica of Saint John the Baptist. Yet the area was being occupied by Muslim gradually. In the 7th century, it was rebuilt as a mosque because this area had been under foot of Islam.
